This is the 2026 announcment for LISSIM 12, the 12th version of the internationally renowned annual Summer School organised by FOSSSIL. This time, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IITD, will organise LISSIM 12 in collaboration with FOSSSIL. It will be a shorter, seven-day version of the School to be held from the 1st to the 7th of June 2026 at the IIT Delhi Campus, Sonipat; the place is still 'devoid of the usual distractions of a city, town or even a touristy hill station!' The admission to the School is highly competitive and since the number of student participants is limited to 20, prospective participants are therefore requested to apply as soon as possible. Membership to FOSSSIL is currently on hold and will be resumed in the next academic year (July/ August 2026-27); you can express your intention to apply for membership by writing an email of intention to secretary.

Selection for the School is based on previous records, written essay and an interview. LISSIM 12 will explore case, binding, and agreement syntactically and look at discourse strategies with special reference to semantics of particles. The application for the Summer School has three components:

1. How can novel data from Indian languages be used to understand the interplay between case, binding and agreement/concord in current theoretical models of syntax (Minimalism onwards)? Discuss with reference to your native language(s);
2. Discuss the potential of distinct discourse strategies in Indian languages for advancing theories of formal semantics and syntax with reference to novel data from your native language(s);

Fees include tuition, boarding, and lodging for the duration of the Summer School.
